A Farm
About a hundred years ago, Rajviti Road extended only a short distance from the bank of the Chao Phraya River to Suan Dusit Palace. King Chulalongkorn named it Saang-hi (now generally pronounced sung-hi), an auspicious term in Chinese, meaning "with greatest pleasure." Later King Vajiravudh renamed it Rajviti, or Royal Path.
In the early days at the end of the newly built Saang-hi Road there were vegetable gardens and rice fields as well as Khlong Samsen flowing through a wide expanse of open area called Thung Phya Thai. King Chulalongkorn like the healthy atmosphere of the neighborhood and purchased about 100 rai (40 acres) of land from farmer in the area adjacent to the royal rice field so that he could have a place to relax and experiment with rice crops and raising chickens. the first structure set up here was a farmhouse and a pavilion as he was thinking of transferring the ploughing ceremony, which had been held at Phramane Grounds (Sanam Luang), to the Royal Farm on Khlong Phya Thai.
